While it sometimes appears (and at times we’ve often wished) that comic book stories appear as if by magic, the reality is quite a bit more down-to-earth.
Often we get asked, “Where did you get the idea for Elfquest?” The answer is simple; the characters and situations of Elfquest are all reflections, to one degree or another, of real life. Ideas are easy; it’s getting them from one’s head down onto the paper that often stymies people.
Most often, and especially in the early days, an Elfquest tale would begin life as a bunch of sketches, or concept pieces. The characters were very new and raw, and needed a lot of fine tuning to bring out their individual personalities and histories. This section of Elfquest.com showcases the history and evolution of Elfquest itself, both as the overall concept and as individual stories, to give you an idea of what goes on behind the scenes. It begins with the very first ideas of what Elfquest was trying to be. Over time, more and more pictures and notes will be added.
