    I guess it could be the influence the palace has on all elves..? That is something we already know about, in plain sight, but perhaps the consequences are more severe.

    It could have something to do with recognition; safe, immortal environment = no more need for babies for survival of the species. It could explain why Ember found a way to ignore recognition. I seem to recall a Winnowill flashback in the Siege story arc where she pointed out the same thing happened to the gliders… It would also fit in really well with the Elder’s council at the start of HY 9.5, allowing danger and death back into the holt.

  3. Captainvimes, I think you’ve got it. Shenshen complained about the lack of births to the point of shape changing to be a human. And now they’re alluding to Leetah knowing something and not sharing with the rest.
