  1. Okay, the fungus elves officially squick me out a little. XD

  2. I love it! These new, odd elves. Are they actually just spirits though, opting to not have a body but instead merge with the plants, or the trees themselves? Maybe these trees have been untouched and unchanged. I can’t wait to find out more. It’s kinda scary though that Cutter is on the verge of dying and how will they change him. Will they make his spirit like theirs. They did say they had to wait till he was “still”, like the preserver talk, but does their “still” mean death, which I am gathering it does. I can imagine it’s not just me, but who would have ever thought these new elves were like this!!!

  3. I love the fungi-elves!
Their collective sending feels like a hive-mind.
I hope we get to see some history of them which might explain their feelings towards “the four-limbed” creatures. Is that because the other elves look too much like humans to them?
And why wouldn’t they want to return to the Palace… it could give them the power to return to their true shape again or to become shapechangers again….

  4. I am really curious about why the don’t want to be “four-limbed” anymore. Maybe it was the only safe way for them in this world. They feel the “call” as a call to return to that state and they don’t want to. Maybe their elders exaggerated or put to much of their own hate of what happened. Or maybe they were part of a group that was tired of traveling all the time.

  5. I wonder if they have a high one among them, one that might remember, or if because there is not, they have forgotten. I got the impression that they were waiting to “absorb” Cutter, be that literally, or what… that I don’t know. I love that Dre-ahn is an empath, a totally different kind of healing than any of the tribes have experienced. Hmm…. perhaps that is why he is in the group looking for Cutter, he may be able to provide some calm.

  6. Frankly, it seemed a little odd to me that they referred to four limbs as “pesty” and yet that’s how their bodies look… 😛

  7. I agree but look at some of the “legs”. It’s more like they are shifting through the plants, which would be their body. They do not rely on limbs to get around. It’s like the became the plants. Kinda like that one pic of Timmain that looks like she was becoming a tree (in the Original Quest). I would be too much of a coincidence for it to have something to do with Timmain but perhaps another high one figured out it would work. Also, I think that the originals would have to be all shape-shifters perhaps. :)
(other side-note: how to insert the EQ smileys. I don’t remember)

  9. Great ideas and discussion! You can embed an EQ emoticon by clicking the smiley face symbol just outside the top right corner of the comment box when you’re typing. :pirate:

  10. I am new to this site, but I began to read Elfquest in the early 80s and am very happy to se the new issues!

In this issue, I was reminded of the issue of the original quest, when Cutter and Skywise reached the forest again, before they met Nonna and Adar. They sensed that there had been elves there, a faint feeling of magic. Could that have been those fungi-elves? Skywise says that Cutter is following the same direction as they did then.

  11. Any chance Gibra is in this group of new elves?

The temptation is strong to reply, “If she is, she spends most of her existence as a kind of lichen on her own special rock of Gibra-altered…” But no.

  12. Thanks Thornbrake!
and Wow! Gibra!! I need to go back and re-read those. I kinda remember her leaving.
Oh and I forgot Timmain was in charge of memory in the Circle of Nine, which would explain why Cutter is the chief that remembers. :pikewhoa:

  13. Ummm? going out on a limb here. Am I seeing things or is the main treeling; changeling elftess (since they are still nameless to us) got a baby bump?

  14. Ohhhhh boy! :O I just read it and again can’t wait for the next issue.
Is Cutter going full circle? Is Moonshade becoming a high one? What is happening is more like the question. So much is changing around Cutter and the Wolfriders and everyone in the world of Two Moons.

I agree Sadachbia. The plant elves…brr. What will happen to Cutter and what are the plant elves up to!?
Dre-ahn hopefully can bring some sort of calm to Cutter as Laurel pointed out. Hopefully he will accept the help. :S

I’m even more concerned for Strongbow too after this issue.

  15. I remember in one of the Spoiler Threads, there was discussion about whether or not it was a baby bump. Further along, it was theorized by me and some others that they just might be spirits, therefore baby bump would be impossible, since spirits lack the physical form to reproduce. Beautiful Elfmom responded to a post: “Go back and read their hive mind sendings and think about what the term “sucks us back” might mean in reference to “the Call.” The palace sucks in their souls, so maybe we are on the right path that they are spirits who chose to reside with in the earth.

  16. “Only Timmorn’s descendants go where they will after death….”
    http://elfquest.com/read/index.php?s=OQ/OQ20&p=17

So if they are spirit inhabiting trees or that chose to reside within the earth, and only Timmorn’s descendants are capable of that, per Timmain….

    Are they long-dead wolfriders?

  17. @Blackwater, read that again.

Timmain’s exact words are “Only Timmorn’s descendants go where they will after death. The rest of us are bound, sound and flesh, to the time and world in which the palace exists.”

I take that to mean the spirits of non-Timmorn descendants just can’t time travel or leave the planet unless it’s with the palace. This is one of the “rules” that people reference all the time but I also suspect it could be our limited thinking getting the better of us. Even if it were the case, seems like it could be one of the instances where the rules may have been bent as a one time thing. As Wendy said a few years back, these are magical creatures after all.

Not to say the theories about them being spirits are 100% going to pan out, but based on the comment posted above, it seems like the best guess out there.
