Can I just add that although I've been an eBay user for years, I still am really irritated by the whole "reserve not met" thing? It's not the idea that a seller can put a reserve on an item that bothers me; that's fine. Just -- tell me what it is! What I hate is the whole coy thing where they make you GUESS what the reserve it.
It's probably related to the auction philosophy, I don't know. (The thing where if someone just told you a price, you'd decide whether it was too much or something you were willing to pay -- but, in an auction, the excitement of a bidding war can make people bid far more than they would otherwise be willing to pay.) It just backfires on me, though. A reserve is a minimum opening bid, and I don't see the purpose of not telling me how much I need to pony up just to get in the game. :x
