Elfquest Fan Calendars, 2002-2009

For more than a decade, Elfquest fans have gotten together to create wonderful fan-calendars every year. The earliest of these were published here; calendars since 2009 are available at the Elfquest Fan Art homepage.

2002

Welcome to the very first Elfquest fan art calendar!

This is the first of (we hope) not only an ongoing series of fan art calendars, but also of other fan art projects. This calendar project, for year 2002, was spearheaded
by Lillian Magidow, who not only corralled the artists and coordinated the project but also provided the cover.

Enjoy!

2003: 25 Years of Celebrations

Welcome to the 2003 Elfquest fan art calendar!

Last year about this time I wrote (of the 2002 edition): “This is the first of (we hope) not only an ongoing series of fan art calendars…” Looks like we got that part right. This year’s effort was again spearheaded
by Lillian Magidow. (If you’re interested, you can find the artwork for the 2002 calendar here.)

2003’s theme, in honor of Elfquest’s silver anniversary, is “Twenty-Five Years of Celebrations.”

2007: Home and Family

It is part of the history of every elf tribe on the World of Two Moons to be driven from the place it had come to call home. Fire consumed the Holt; Blue Mountain cracked into rubble; the Go-Backs were forced to flee their lodge. Sorrow’s End perished, Crest Point broke into pieces and was washed away.

The High Ones themselves were driven from the Palace that, now regained, welcomes in every elf. But the welcome comes, ultimately, not from a crystal ship but from the elfin spirits which inhabit it. The lesson every elf seems destined to learn is this: Home, real home, is not a place at all. Home is being together.

On the World of Two Moons, home is family. And family is home.

2008: Favorite Moments

Welcome to the 2008 Elfquest fan art calendar!

The theme for this year is “Favorite Moments,” in honor of Elfquest’s 30th anniversary.

The anthropologist Ashley Montagu said, “The moments of happiness we enjoy take us by surprise. It is not that we seize them, but that they seize us.” How true. And how wonderful it is when, seemingly from nowhere, a word or a thought or an image or a memory taps us on the shoulder and fills our heart.

For thirty years Elfquest has, often in the sneakiest of ways, reached out and touched our spirit with a favorite moment that we remember even years after reading of it. It may be an event, or simply the expression on a face. It may be shared by many readers, but it’s always also intensely personal.

On the World of Two Moons, an elf’s life can be dangerous and short. But within beautiful moments, time can last endlessly. They are all around; be ready for them.

2009: The Magic of Elfquest

Welcome to the 2009 Elfquest fan art calendar!

The theme for this year is “The Magic of Elfquest.”

Some of them can heal; some can shape rock. Some can shield themselves and others from harm. Some can lift themselves and glide through the air. We might call it “psychic powers.” They call it magic.

The elves’ magic gives Elfquest a special fascination for readers; but it is only one facet of the unique beauty of this World of Two Moons. The fact is that Elfquest itself is magic. It is that, shown particularly through the “magic” powers of certain elves, that this calendar celebrates. So – welcome to the Magic of Elfquest!
