This post got me thinking when I saw it on FB and it made me think along the lines of Vonnegut and his Tralfamadorians from Slaughterhouse-Five. They existed in all time at once. And they even reveal that the universe will be accidentally destroyed by one of their test pilots. Even having the knowledge of how the world would end couldn't stop it from happening because even though they could see the future, they could not change it, because it has already happened. Time in this story (and other ones) is more of a mobius strip, not linear. This is how I could see the scroll telling the past, present and future working. It just depends where you are at the time in the strip.
