You are right, Zeina. The original ultramarine pigment was made of pure lapislazili powder in Ancient Egypt. Malacite is a precious rare stone already and the making of clean powder was ver laborious thus was an extremely expensive color. Other mineral colors come from malachite (green), azurite (blue) and cinnebar (red). Many of these pigments were poisonous or mixed with poisonous substances to menhance the brightness.
