Chieftess of the Go-Backs, huntress, and magic-blocker
Venka is cool, serene, and tranquil, an unexpected, beautifully balanced mix of her Go-Back mother, Kahvi, and Sun Villager father, Rayek. She knows who she is and is comfortable with it. It gives her a center, a calmness. Her impassive face is rarely crossed by emotion, which makes her hard to fathom. Resentment is unknown to Venka, which is ironic given that it was the primary fuel in the violent end of her parents’ relationship and shaped who she would become.
Venka started life under ominous circumstances. Kahvi wanted Rayek’s remarkable qualities running new in her tribe, yet had no interest in his involvement after he served his purpose of siring the fawn–so she lied and told him Venka died shortly after birth. Rayek’s resentment built until it burst forth in a violent attack that ended in the banishment of the Go-Backs and, unwittingly, almost caused Venka’s actual death. In turn, Kahvi set out on a quest to punish Rayek, and when she learned he traveled forward in time and was beyond her reach, set about making Venka the tool of her revenge.
Like her father, Venka is a strong magic user. Hers is the power to block other elves’ magic. It first manifested when she was an infant, as Winnowill attempted to lure former minions Aroree and Tyldak, who were carrying Venka and Kahvi across the Vastdeep Water, under the waves where she lurked. As Venka felt herself slipping underwater her survival instinct took over and she blocked Winnowill’s magical grip on the two Gliders, freeing them from sea witch’s hold. The motley crew ended up in Thorny Mountain Holt, where Venka spent many years protecting Cutter’s tribe from Winnowill’s black sendings and probes, waiting for Rayek to return.
Though Kahvi planned for Venka to exact revenge on Rayek, the Wolfriders completed her upbringing, teaching her to love and not to hate. She had the power to prevent her father from wiping out all elves, trolls and preservers not selected by him to stop the crash-landing of the High Ones. Yet Venka refused to stop him, leaving it up to Rayek to make the right choice of his own free will. She stood by his side in the aftermath, aiding in his rehabilitation with steady love and support.
During the quest to recover the shards of the Palace from Grohmul Djun, Venka bravely faced off against both the human warlord and Winnowill herself. Two-Edge became her smitten protector during that struggle, saving her from certain death. Because Rayek captured Winnowill’s dark spirit, Venka is now freed from her duty to block the villainess’s power.
After the Shards War, she set out on a quest to learn what became of her mother, Kahvi. After years of searching, she and the warrior tribe settled back in the Frozen Mountains and at their insistence, she took up the mantle of Chieftess. Under her leadership, the Go-Backs have finally begun to move forward.
Venka led the Go-Backs back to the Palace where they served as protectors of the ancient structure as well as the elfin pilgrims answering its great call to return to the stars.
She ultimately handed off the mantle of leadership of her warrior tribe to her half-brother Teir and his lifemate Ember, Chieftess of the Wolfriders, which freed her to become a Palace Dweller and leave the World of Two Moons with her daughter Satreeka on the journey back to the High Ones’ Star Home.
